Apostle Paul’s Great Sorrow

The Apostle Paul’s greatest sorrow was over the people of Israel who rejected Jesus Christ. Romans Ch. 9.

Paul’s sorrow for his Jewish bretheren. vs. 2-3.

  1. He has great heaviness and continued sorrow in his heart for his Jewish bretheren. vs. 2.

  2. His separating himself from Christ would not bring them to faith in Christ. vs. 3.

God’s call and dealing with Abraham and his seed, the people of Israel. Romans 9:4-23.

  1. Christ came as the seed of Abraham fulfilling God’s promise to Abraham. Romans 9:4-5.

  2. God’s call and promise to Abraham and his seed: Get thee out of this country…to a land I will give thee, and I will make of thee a great nation…and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Genesis 12:1-3.

  3. The Abrahamic Covenant was fulfilled selectively in his seed: ”the children of promise” were Isaac but not Ishmael, and Jacob but not Esau bercause of God’s election. Romans 9:7-13.

Fullfillment of God’s promise to Abraham that in his seed “All families of the earth would be blessed” Romans 9:23-26.

  1. God’s mercy through Jesus Christ called not only Jews but also Gentiles. vs.24.

  2. Prophet Hosea’s prophecy quoted: “I will call them my people who were not my people, and her beloved which was not beloved.” vs.25.

  3. Those that were not called God’s people shall be called God’s people. vs.26.

Faith, not the Law lead to righteousness. Romans 9:30-33.

  1. The Gentiles have attained righteousness by faith. vs.30

  2. Israel which followed the Law rather than faith has not attained to Righteouness. vs.31-32.

  3. Jesus became a “STUMBLINGSTONE AND ROCK OF OFFENSE” for Zion(Israel), but whoever believes on him will not be ashamed. vs.33.

God’s plan from creation was to rescue Adam’s sinful race by sending Jesus Christ to redeem sinful man by dying on the cross. All who believe on Jesus Christ will be restored to God, regardless of race and gender.
