Empty house-UNCLEAN SPIRIT ANALOGY

Unclean spirit mentioned 21 times in the New Testament and described by Jesus in Matthew 12:22-30, & 43-45. Also in Luke 11:24-26

Synonyms: Evil Spirit. Demoniac. Satanic. Wicked spirit. Beelzebub.

Key Scripture:

Matthew 12:22-30 & 43-45. They brought to Jesus the man possessed wirh a devil and is blind and dumb. Jesus heals him. The Pharisees say “this fellow hath not cast out devils but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.” Jesus responds.

  1. When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man he walks through dry places, seeking rest and finding none.

  2. The house he departs is now empty, swept and garnished.

  3. The unclean spirit walks through dry places seeking rest, and findeth none decides to return to the house that has been swept clean and garnished, and brings with him 7 other wicked spirits.

  4. The state of the man is now much worse than it was.

  5. So shall it be unto this wicked generation.

  6. Jesus prompted to make this parabolic statement after He cast out a devil from a dumb man and was accused by the scribes & pharisees of “casting out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.”

II Corinthians 4:4. Jesus provides insight into Satan’s mission and goal. Satan is “the god of this world…”
