Apostle Peter’s first sermon
Delivered on the Day of Pentecost. Acts 2:14-36.
After the Holy Spirit descended on the group of 120 believers in the first church as Jesus had promise before his ascension to heaven. Acts 1:3-5.
When the crowd observed them speaking in tongues, they mocked them. Acts 2:13.
Peter stands up among the othe apostles and delivers his sermon beginning with quoting the prophecy of the prophet Joel about the coming of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:17-21, Joel 2:28-32.
Peter refers to the coming of Christ, his ministry, his crucifiction, his resurrection and his ascension. Acts 2:22-36.
The respose of the crowd: they were pricked in their hearts and asked “what shall we do?” Peter tells them to “repent and be baptised every one of you in the name of Jesus.” Acts 2:37-38.
Three thousand believers were added to the church. Acts 2:41-42.
