The grafted olive tree-Tree of Life

Paul’s prayer for Israel. Romans 10:1-16.

  1. Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles prays that Israel mighr be saved.

  2. They are ignorant of God’s rightousness and establish their own rightousness by means of the Old Testament law.

  3. Righteousness which is of faith: confess Jesus Christ is Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead.

  4. There is no difference between the Jew and the Greek-the same Lord for all who call upon Him.

  5. But they have not obeyed the Gospel. Isaiah says: Lord who has believed our report?

Paul’s dissertation and analogy of the Olive Tree. Romans 11:1-36. The olive tree is evergreen, fruitful and an important part of Old Testament Law and Jewish culture. Olive oil used for anointing, sanctification, grain offerings and lamp oil.

  1. Hath God cast away His people? God forbid. For I am also an Israelite of the seed of Abraham.

  2. Elijah said They have killed thy prophets and they seek my life.

  3. God said to him I have preserved to my self 7000 men who have not bowed to Baal. There is a remnant according to the election of grace.

  4. Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid, but through their fall salvation has come to the Gentiles.

  5. If the first fruit be holy and the roots holy so are the branches. vs. 16. Referring to the Olive tree.

  6. If some of the branches be broken off and you a wild olive tree are grafted in, you partake of the root & fatness of the olive tree.

  7. The olive tree

Instruction to Gentile believers.

  1. Boast not and say the branches were broken off that I might be grafted in. They were broken off because of unbelief. Be not highminded but fear.

  2. If God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest He also spare not thee.

  3. Behold the goodness and severity of God. Continue in His goodness and you will not be cut off.

The mystery of God’s redemption.

  1. If the cut off branches turn from unbelief they shall be grafted in again. The natural branches vs. the wild (fruitless) branches vs. 23-26.

  2. Blidness in part happened to Israel untill the fullness of the Gentiles be come in. Then Israel shall be saved.

  3. Out of Zion shall come the Deliverer and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob.

  4. For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take awy their Sin. Isa. 59:20.

  5. For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

  6. Who hath known the mind of the Lord? Or who hath been His councellor.

  7. For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

The Tree of Life is eternal life through Jesus Christ for Jew and Gentile.

  1. Garden of eden. Gen.3:22-24. Adam & Eve after eating the forbidden fruit were cast out of the Garden lest they eat it & live for ever.

  2. The Holy City in eternity. Rev. 2:7. “To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the Tree of Life which is in the midst of tthe paradise of God.”

  3. Jesus said “I am the way the truth and the life…” The Tree of Life represents Jesus Christ.
