Concluding thoughts:
Heaven in the Bible refers to the created heaven when God formed the heavens and the earth, and to the eternal heaven and God’s throne and domain.
Hades(Greek word) and Sheol(Hebrew word) refer to the abode of the dead before the resurrection of Christ. In some Bible translations Hades and Sheol are referred to as Hell.
When Christ died, He descends into Hades and ministers to the the Old Testament righteous dead (I Peter 3:19). They could not go to heaven because they lived before Christ died to atone for sinners.
Some Bible theologians believe the old testament saints went to heaven when Christ rose from the dead. David says in Psalm 16:10 Thou wilt not leave my soul in hell. Ephesians 4:8: WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED CAPTIVITY CAPTIVE.
Paradise is God’s domain and includes Old Testament people of faith (Lazarus at Abrahams’s bosom, and the repentent thief on the cross).
At the end time death and hell are cast into the lake of fire and there will be a new heaven and a new earth. There shall be no more death. Revelation 21:1&4.
