Parable of the Lost Sheep

This is the first of the trilogy of parables precipitated by the murmuring of the Pharisees against Jesus: “He received sinners and dines with them.” Luke chapter 15.

Jesus came to seek the lost, find the lost and restore the lost. Jesus hated sin but loved sinners.

Jesus’s question: which of you with a flock of 100 sheep and finds that one is lost, will he not leave the 99 and searches for the lost sheep till he finds it. He lays it on his shoulders rejoicing.

He will then gather his friends and neighbors to rejoice with him for finding and restoring the lost sheep.

Jesus then says “there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner that repenteth than over 99 persons that need no repentance.
