Philip the Apostle

Apostle Philip a devout student of the Old Testamant.

Not to be confused with Philip, one of the seven Deacons of the early church. Acts. 6:5.

Philip the Deacon was the first to evaengelize the Samaritans. Acts :5-14.

He shared the Gospel with the Ethiopian Eunuch. Acts 8:26-40. This opened the door of Africa to the Gospel.

John’s Gospel rescues Philip from near oblivion with four references to Philip the Apostle.

  1. John 1:43-46. His hometown is Bethesda-same as Andrew and Peter. The first to hear Jesus say follow me.

  2. John 6:5-7. Before feeding the 5000, Jesus asks him “Whence shall we buy bread?” Philip had a warm heart.

  3. John 12:20-22. The Greeks came to Philip probably because Philip is a Greek name.

  4. John 14:3-11. Philip says to Jesus “Lord show us the Father and it is enough for us.” Philip was somewhat sceptic and had to learn that Christ is the way to the Father.
