I will make breath enter you, and ye will come to life says the Lord. Ezekiel 37:1-14

Ezekiel is the third of the major prophets in the Old Testament (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel) ministering during the Babylonian captivity about 586 BC.

God sends the prophet Ezekiel to the despondent nation of Israel during their Babylonian captivity with hope of restoration.

The sinfulness of Israel in turning away from God and worshipping pagan idols led to their captivity. Ezekiel 36:16-21.

God is righteous but is also meciful and will pardon and restore. Ezekiel 36:22-36.

God’s vision of restoration. Ezekiel Ch. 37

  1. Ezekiel carried in the spirit to the valley of dry bones. vs. 1-2.

  2. God’s question: “Son of man, can these bones live?” vs. 3a. John 5:21. II Corinthians 1:9-10.

  3. Ezekiel’s response: “Oh Lord God, thou knowest.” vs. 3b.

  4. God’s instruction to Ezekiel to prophesy upon the bones. vs. 4-6.

  5. Ezekiel prophesies and sees a progressive recovery of the dry bones. vs. 7-10.

  6. God tells Ezekiel that the bones are the house of Israel. v. 11.

  7. God instructs Ezekiel to prophesy again-the restoration of the nation. vs 12-14, 21-23.

The everlasting covenant to be established. vs.24-28.

  1. The new Davidic covenant. “They shall have one shepherd…and observe my statutes” vs. 24.

  2. My servant David shall be their prince for ever. vs. 25.

  3. The everlasting covenant of peace. vs. 26-28.

Jeremiah also prophesied of God fulfilling His promise of deliverance: “The days are surely coming…when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days…I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David: and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.” Jeremiah 33:14-15.

The everlasting covenant was fullfilled in Jesus Christ who came to redeem all sinners that put their trust in Him, both Jews and Gentiles.
