Security of Salvation

Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.

IS THE BELIEVER’S SALVATION SECURE?

It is important to understand the significance of Salvation, and that it is not a maybe/maybe not situation.
While some tend to believe that Salvation can be lost, Scripture makes it clear that once one accepts the Lord as their personal saviour, believes that Christ is the Son of God, was crucified and was raised the third day and has opened to gates of Heaven to those who are true believers, their salvation is assured.

Trusting in the Lord and surrendering one’s life to Him is not an on again, off again type of relationship. It is a truly and irrevocable believing and committing ones life to the Lord, is love based, and results in a total change in the life of the true believer.

THE PROMISE AND SECURITY OF SALVATION
John 5: 24 Salvation to those who believe in God who sent his Son Christ Jesus

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

John 10: 24-30 – No man is able to pluck them out of my father’s hand

24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.

25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.

26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.

27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

30 I and my Father are one.

John 14:21-26 – God loves and will dwell with those who love him

21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?

23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Romans 8:29-30; 38-39 – Nothing can separate us from the love of God

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 John 2:3-6; 18-19 – Those who reject or depart from the faith were never true believers

3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

1 John 3:9-10 – The unrighteous are not of God

9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

Ephesians 2:8-9 – Salvation is a gift of God

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Philippians 2:13 – God works in us

13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

2 Corinthians 5:17 – Those in Christ are new creatures

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Romans 10:9-13 – Salvation is for those who believe in their heart that God raised Christ from the dead.

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Hebrews 10:14-16 – The Lord has written his laws in the hearts and minds of those who are sanctified.

14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

THOSE WHO DRAW BACK OR DO NOT TRULY LOVE GOD
Hebrews 10:38-39 – Those who draw back were never justified nor sanctified true believers.

38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

Hebrews 6:4-8 – Those who have heard and understood and fall away are forever damned – As illustrated by the parable of the sower-Matthew 13:4 some seed fell by the wayside, and the fowls came and devoured them up.

4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

SUMMARY
Luke 16:15 Only God knows man’s heart

15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

Those who hear and understand, and have the Holy Spirit open their eyes to the truth, and then reject the Lord, and depart and follow evil, are forever lost and never achieve salvation due to refusal to truly love God with all of their heart.
However, those who hear, believe and truly love God, have the irrevocable promise of eternal salvation.
