THE DAY JESUS WAS BORN
Below is the message audio followed by message notes
Why was Jesus born in Bethlehem? Luke 2:1-7.
To fulfill the Old Testament prophecy in Micah 5:2. But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.
Bethlehem was in the lineage of King David. Ruth, the great grandmother of King David was from Bethlehem. David was born and raised in Bethlehem which is called the city of David. Luke 2:4.
Joseph takes Mary and goes to Bethlehem to pay the Roman tax because Joseph was of the lineage of David.
Mary brought forth her first born son, wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the Inn. Luke 2:6-7. No room for the son of King David in the city of David. Manger was a stable where cattle and horses were fed.
Isaiah 53:3. “He is despised and rejected of men…he was despised and we esteemed him not.”
Announcement to shepherds in the field: Luke 2:8-12
And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.
And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.
Announcement to wisemen in the East. Matthew 2:1-8,16.
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise
men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews.
The wisemen from the east were Magi probably from Persia which worshipped idols. This announcement was God reaching out to Gentiles.
Arrival of the wisemen was many months later traveling on camels from the East to Jerusalem. King Harold wantd to know where Jesus is. The Jewish religeous leaders tell him in Bethlehem.
The Star from the East had led the wisemen from the east to the house where Jesus was. They fell down and worshipped him, and presented unto him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh-royal gifts. They then departed.
King Harod would decree that all the male children who were in Bethlehem from two years old and under be put to death, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.
There is a hymn by Boney M. - Mary’s Boy Child that says:
Hark, now hear the Angels sing
“New King’s born today
and man will live forevermore
Because of Christmas Day”
