For by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

Isaiah’s prophecy. Isaiah 53:1-6. Isaiah is one of the Major Prophets of the Old Testament, and the most quoted in the New Testament. It was written 740-741 B.C. when Judah and it’s kings had turned away from God.

  1. He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities

  2. The chastisement of our peace was upon him

  3. With his stripes we are healed.

  4. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. The suffering Servant.

  5. Punishment of the wicked by the Old Testament law: Forty stripes he may be given. Deuteronomy 25:2-3.

  6. Jesus was scourged by Pilate and a crown of thorns placed on him. John 19:1-2.

Apostle Matthew refers to fullfillment of Jesus’s healing ministry and quotes Isaiah’s prophecy. Matthew 8:16-17

  1. They brought to Jesus many that were possessed with devils

  2. He cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick

  3. He fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses

Apostle John refer to Jesus as the Restorer of life.

  1. As the Father raiseth up the dead and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. John 5:21

  2. I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself… Jo.hn 14:3.

  3. I am the way, the truth and the life. John 14:6

  4. No man cometh unto the Father but by me.

  5. Recovery and restoration of sinful man to God.

Apostle Paul speaks of Substitutionary Atonement.

  1. While we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son. Romans 5:10

  2. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 1 Corinthians 15:22

  3. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; That we might be made the rightousness of God in him. II Corinthians 5:21. Christ made our substitute.

  4. And you being dead in your sins…he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses. Colossians 2:13.

Apostle Peter refers to Jesus’s substitutionary atonement. I Peter 2:24-25.

  1. Who his own self bore our sins in his own body on the tree

  2. That we being dead to sin should live unto righteousness

  3. By whose stripes ye were healed

  4. The wayward sheep restored to the Shepherd of their soul.
