Final Old Testament Prophecy
Malachi is last Prophet in the Old Testament.
THE PROPHET MALACHI
Malachi means my messenger in Hebrews.
This is the last of the 12 Minor Prophets.
It is a post-exilic book - after rebuilding the temple which was dedicated 516 B.C.
The people have become unfaithful to God’s covenant. He will deal with them but not abandon them.
Malachi speaks of the COMING DAY OF THE LORD four times
From the rising of the sun even unto the going down…my name shall be great among the Gentiles… Ch.1:11.
But who may abide the day of His coming…Ch.3:2.
And they shall be mine saith the Lord of hosts, in the day when I make up my jewels…Ch.3:17.
For behold the day cometh…and all the proud and do wickedly shall be stubble…Ch.4:1.
Malachi prophesise that Elijah will usher in the “ day of the Lord” 400 years later in the person of John the Baptist.
“Behold I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the…day of the Lord. Malachi 4:5.
John the Baptist came preaching and saying Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Matthew 3:1-2.
John the Baptist speaks of the beginning of the ministry of Jesus. “ I baptise you with water…but He shall baptise you with the Holy Ghost…Matthew 3:11.
John the Baptist baptises Jesus to begin the ministry of Jesus. Matthew 3:13-17.
