James John’s brother
Always listed in the first three: Peter, James & John. James was probably older than John-sons of Zebedee
James always appeared with John except in Acts 12:1-2. “Now about tht time Herod the King stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. And he killed James the brother of John with a sword.” James becomes the first martyr of the church.
Contrasting John and James:
John probably died of old age after exile on the Isle of Patmos. James the first martyred Apostle 44 A.D.
John had a long time ministry and wrote four books: Gospel of John, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd John. John was probably also the author of the Book of Revelation. James died young.
Both drank the cup of Christ. Matthew 20:20-23 “… ye shall drink indeed of my cup…”
James did witness the raising of Jairus’s daughter from the dead (Mark 5:37), Jesus’s Transfiguration and Jesus’s agony in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Though James died young, he did minister for Christ for 11 years.
