Jesus on the Cross.

Jesus on the way to Golgotha to be crucufied

Jesus trials ended with Pilate who delivered Him to be crucified. John 19:15-19.

Simon the Cyrenian bore the cross to Gogotha. Jesus is crucified with 2 thieves. Mark 15:21-28.

Golgotha is where Abraham was to sacrifice his son Isaac. Genesis 22:1-18.

  1. Isaac asks “Father, where is the lamb?”

  2. Abraham replies: “God will provide himself the lamb.”

  3. For Jesus there was no substitude. He was “The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”

Jesus reviled and mocked. Mark 15:28-32.

  1. He was numbered with the transgressors.

  2. By those that passed by.

  3. By the chief priests who said “He saved others; himself he cannot save.”

  4. By the soldiers who offered him vinegar, and said “ if thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself”. Luke 23:36-37.

  5. By one of the malfactors on the cross. “If thou be Christ, save thyself.” Luke 23:39.

The seven sayings of Jesus on the cross.

  1. “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:34.

  2. The reply of Jesus to the malefactor that said: “Lord remember me when thou comest into thy Kingdom.” Jesus says to him “Today thou shalt be with me in paradise”. Luke 23:49-43.

  3. Jesus says to Mary His Mother: “Woman behold thy son…son behold thy mother.” John 19:25-27.

  4. Next was the three hour of darkness. God the Father turns His back on His son. Jesus says “My God, My God why hast Thou forsaken me.” Matt 27:46. God made Jesus sin for us.

  5. Jesus says “I Thirst.” He was dehydrated and dying. John 19:28

  6. “It is finished, and He bowed His head and gave up the ghost. John 19:30

  7. “Father, into Thy hands I commend my Spirit.” Having said this He gave up the ghost. Luke 23:46

Final event while Jesus was on the cross was the wound of the Lance. John 19:31-36.

  1. Breaking legs of the two on the cross to quicken their death. They must be burried before Passover.

  2. Jesus was already dead, therefore they broke not His legs fulfilling the prophecy “No bone of Him shall be broken.” Psalm 34:20.

  3. “one of the soldiers with a spear pierced His side. John 19:34.

Next event was the earthquake and the Renting of the Veil of the Holy of Holies from top to bottom. Matt.27:51-56

  1. The end of the Old Mosaic Covenant.

  2. Christ is the final and everlasting High Priest.

The final event at the Burial of Jesus. John 19:38-42

  1. Joseph of Arimathea, a Centurian, asks Pilate for the body of Jesus to bury Him.

  2. Nicodemus brings a mixture of myrrh and cloth to prepare the body of Jesus for burial
