The Lord’s Supper

Jesus’ farewell message to His 12 disciples.

Preparation for the feast of the Passover which was before the Last Supper.

  1. Preparation for the Jewish Paschal meal-the day of unleavened bread. Luke 22:7-16.

  2. Contention among the disciples as to who is greater. Luke 22:24.

  3. Jesus’s response. Luke 22:25-27. The greatest is he that serveth as I am serving.

  4. Before the Passover meal Jesus washes the disciples’s feet. Recorded only in John’s gospel. John 13:1-20.

The Passover meal.

  1. After the footwashing, the Passover meal begins Mark.14:18-21

  2. Jesus tells them “one of you shall betray me even he that eateth with me.” Prophesied in Psalm 41:9.

  3. John asks “who is it Lord?” John 13:25-26.

  4. Jesus’s reply. He who I give the sop to. Jesus gives the sop to Judas the son of Simon Iscariot.

  5. Judas asks is it I? Matt. 26:25.

  6. Jesus’s reply: “Thou hast said. Do what thou doest quickly.”

  7. Satan enters into Judas and he departs. Judas is not to partake of the Lord’s Supper.

  8. Jesus’s message after Judas departs. John 13:31-38. The new commandment to love one another as I have loved you..

The Lord’s Supper. Luke 22:19-20.

  1. Jesus took bread blessed it and brake it gave to the disciples and said “take eat, this is my body which is given for you. This do in remembrance of me.”

  2. “And the cup in like manner after supper saying this cup is the new covenant in my blood, even that which is poured out for you.”

Jesus’s farewell message to His disciples. John Ch. 14

  1. Let not your heart be troubled, ye believe in God, believe also in me. vs. 1.

  2. … I go to prepare a place for you. vs. 2.

  3. I am the way the truth and the life. vs. 6.

  4. I am in the Father and the Father is in me. vs 11.

  5. Promise of the Holy Spirit. vs. 16-18.

  6. Peace I leave with you…vs.27.
